The LORD is my shepherd
Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
When we depend on the world we want so much. It can lead us too much covetousness which leads to idolizing the things of this world. There are things in this world that we need and there is nothing wrong with having nice things until they come before serving God. We have a God that knows our needs before we ever even ask them, yet sometimes our flesh will tempt us to be covetous and want the things that we do not have and a lot of times we do not need.
The LORD is my shepherd.
The LORD, Jehovah, Creator, the Great I Am. Have you ever meditated on who we are joint heirs with? We are joint heirs with Jesus Christ, the Great I Am, and that is no small matter. How is your view on Jesus Christ, is it small and cramped? When we study the Word of God, we find out exactly who the LORD is, how much He loves us, and that He was willing to die for us.
The LORD is. Is, to be present always, present tense. This means that it is ongoing and never ending.
I love to look at synonyms. Another word for is: exist, to rule, holds up. Think about this.
The LORD exists to be my Shepherd. When you study John chapter 10, you see how Jesus is the Great Shepherd. He is the one who gave us eternal life and He is the one who leads us through this life.
John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.
The LORD rules over us as our Shepherd. He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords. He is a king that has our best interest at hand and everything He does for us is for our best interest.
1 Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The LORD hold us up as our Shepherd and it is His strength and His grace that keeps us going.
Psalm 63:8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
I shall not want. Therefore, there is no need for any other. The void that we had before Jesus has now been filled and He supplies our every need that we have both physical and spiritual.
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Guess what, we do not have to overcome the world for Jesus has already overcome it. All we must do is trust Him and live for Him.
