Prayer Part I
For the next few blogs, we will be looking at prayer and the importance of prayer.
Leonard Ravenhill said, “The Cinderella of the Church today is the prayer meeting. This handmaid of the Lord is unloved and unwooed because she is not dripping with pearls of intellectualism, nor glamorous with the silks of philosophy, neither is she enchanting with the tiara of psychology. She wears the homespuns of sincerity and humility and so is not afraid to kneel!”
Prayer unfortunately is neglected by Christians today but not just the layman; but preachers, missionaries, pastors, and evangelist to. It ought not to be so, but it is.
I believe that the biggest reason (excuse) is the factor of time. Life so fast paced today and people are on the run so much in their busy day today lives that they just do not see the need for prayer. What people do not realize is that prayer is more important than money, work, or anything that we do for it is the conduit, the direct connection that we have to God.
Listen to what the Jesus said. Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Unfortunately, to many times we get the cart in front of the ox. We are supposed to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then it says everything that everything else is added. One of the ways that we seek God and His righteousness is through prayer, but unfortunately so many times we miss that. So many people think well, if I could just make more money then I could serve God better or if I could just line all my ducks up in a row then I could serve God better, when the fact of the matter is that we should seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then everything else falls into place.
So, for the next few blogs, we will be looking at prayer and what the Bible says about it. The Bible is our final authority, not what we think, or what any man thinks, but what the Bible says.
Do you remember this childhood song, and it should not be just a childhood song.
“The Bible, yes that’s the Book for me, I stand alone on the Word of God, the Bible, BIBLE!”
Stay tuned for Prayer Part II.
