Prayer Part III
In this blog we will be looking at the second section of modeled prayer.
I have been told before by Christians that they are not sure exactly how to pray. We will look at the model prayer that Jesus gave to the disciples.
Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Remember, this is just a model prayer. This is not what we are supposed to pray every time we pray for then it becomes a vain repetition. Remember what Jesus said before He gave this model for prayer.
Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
In verse nine it says, “After this manner,” for it is only an example. It gives us the order in which we should pray. Priorities first, we are to seek the kingdom of God first and his righteousness. It goes on to say, “Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” We are to glorify God, reverence Him, lift His name up for who He is.
Psalm 72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.
The first part of verse ten says, “Thy kingdom come.” This is speaking of the Millennial Kingdom, which is after the seven-year tribulation, which is after the rapture. We are supposed to be praying, anticipating, and looking forward to the return of Jesus at the rapture.
Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
In the last part of verse ten says, “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Remember, no matter what we pray it is always about God’s will and not ours. All that we can see is the trees from the forest right in front of our face, but God sees what is on the other side of the forest. God knows what is in our best interest.
Ephesians 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
In verse eleven it says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Now we pray for our needs, but not just our physical needs, but our spiritual needs, especially when we are reading the Word of God.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
In verse twelve it says, “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” We are not just to pray for our forgiveness, but we are to pray with a forgiving heart. We should forgive those who have wronged us. It is not easy to pray for those who have wronged us, our flesh wants to get revenge, but the Bible says to pray for them. The Bible says that vengeance belongs to the Lord.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
In verse thirteen it says, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Only God can keep us out of temptation. We, by ourselves will lead ourselves into temptation every time but God can deliver us every time if we will call upon Him.
2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.
Remember, all power and glory belong to God.
1 Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
