Eschewing and Abstaining
We live in a world today that permeates evil. It has infiltrated music, television, the Internet, and unfortunately even in some of the Christian homes. There has become a push for tolerance that has entered the everyday Christian life that says we must accept the things that the Bible is against. It has become the norm among not just parents, but it spills over into their kids and their teens. A lot of parents no longer monitor the content of the kids and teens lives. They freely search Tik Tok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the list could go on and on. The sound of the Lord’s name being taken in vain no longer makes many of Christians shunk or feel uneasy.
Why is evil so prevalent among Christians today? I believe that it is because a lot of Christians no longer have the eschewing of evil in their life. Through the evil Content that is put out from today’s society, a lot of Christians have become desensitized to it.
Eschew: Deliberately avoid using, to abstain from.
I want to ask this question, are their souls even vexed daily from it?
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
The Bible clearly commands us to stay away from all appearance of evil. It does not matter how cool or how funny that the world makes it seem; the Bible says to abstain from it.
Abstain: To refrain from, voluntarily; but used chiefly to denote a restraint upon the passions or appetites; to refrain from indulgence.
1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
The Bible commands us to be holy as God is holy. As Christians, we are representatives of Jesus Christ on this earth and the light that we are supposed to let shine through us is the light of Jesus Christ. We are to walk as Jesus walked.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
We say that we love Jesus, we love Him with everything that we have, but do we keep His commandments?
- Let us purpose in our hearts today as Daniel did to obey the Word of God.
- Let us draw a line in the sand that our desire to read, learn, and apply the Word of God in our life, be greater than anything else in our life.
- Let us obey the Word of God and show God that we love Him and that He is more important to us than anything in this world.
